Exploring the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands with Awesome Adventures Fiji is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

STEP 1: Chose your type of travel

Flexible travel PASSES

BULA PASS – a flexible hop-on/hop-off pre-paid boat pass for 5-15 days.
AWESOME PASS – a flexible travel pass including pre-paid vessel transfers, accommodation, and meal plans. Pre-book or book as you go. Travel for 5-15 days.

Get it sorted with a PACKAGE

INCLUSIVE PACKAGES – choose from 5 pre-arranged itineraries which include activities, accommodation, and transfers. Ranging from 4 to 11 nights.
MINI ADVENTURE PACKAGES – short itineraries from 1-2 nights to tick off your bucket list.
DIVE PACKAGES – get or upgrade your dive certification or enjoy diving Fiji’s great sites. 4 night packages.
ISLAND STAY PACKAGES – chill out at a resort of your choice for as long as you like with these accommodation and transfer packages

STEP 2: Pick the type of accommodation you prefer

Island Stay Package or Awesome Pass – select which resort/s you want to stay at and then choose which room type you prefer (a dorm, standard bure or upgrade bure).
All other packages – If you have chosen a package just skip straight to choosing what sort of room type you want (dorm or private bure).

STEP 3: Add pre or post-island trip accommodation on the mainland.

Book an Arrival or Departure pack for mainland accommodation prior to your island adventure to make your entire trip a breeze.

It’s a true luxury to have to choose between paradises! Will you opt for an island known for its party atmosphere or a resort renowned for cocktails and massages? You might go for a tiny palm-fringed speck of an island or one that is majestic, rugged, and wild. Some resorts have calm, shallow waters on white-sand beaches while others have deep channels just off their shores where manta rays glide by between May and October.

Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed! Remember, you can always book a Package, which includes a fantastic range of resorts and islands meaning you’ll experience more than one.

Here’s a VERY brief rundown on some standout features, but most island resorts offer something for everyone.

Close to Port Denarau, lots of entertainment & water sports
South Sea Island in the Mamanuca Islands is a great option. This tiny island iscute as a button but overflowing with activities.

Romantic escapism
You can find your own secret pocket of paradise at Blue Lagoon Beach Resort, Octopus Resort, Coconut Beach Resort, or Paradise Cove Resort.

Every night is a Friday
If you want a more social atmosphere, we recommend Mantaray Island Resort or try South Sea Island which offers a range of evening entertainment, including limbo nights if you want to get your dance on!

Action stations!
If you want to get the adrenalin pumping Barefoot Kuata Resort is the go-to place for snorkeling with reef sharks or go all out and do the intro dive with Bull Sharks. Mantaray Island Resort and Barefoot Kuata Island Resort are home to the famous manta ray (May – Oct), which is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Blue Lagoon Beach Resort and Oarsman’s Bay Lodge are at the centre of the Blue Lagoon region which is the gateway to the Sawa-I-Lau Caves and some pretty fabulous snorkelling.

Insta-Worthy Spots
Want to get the best insta shots to make all your mates at home really jealous? The summit hikes Blue Lagoon Beach Resort (best at sunrise), Barefoot Kuata Island Resort (best at sunset) and Mantaray Island Resort (best at sunrise) should not be missed. The Sawa-I-Lau caves are definitely worth the trip as well as a walk over the hill from Nanuya Boathouse to Lo’s Tea House for some great island and lagoon shots.

If activities are your key in choosing where to go, visit our activities page. Under each activity description, you’ll see which resorts offer the experiences you’re after.

If you prefer to “go with the flow” and select the resorts and islands you’d like to stay at as you travel then an Awesome Pass is perfect.  These pre-paid passes allow you to choose the number of days/nights you’d like to travel in the Yasawa’s and then you can choose the level of accommodation to suit your budget/needs, dorm, standard bure, or upgrade bure.   Of course, if you’re the organised type, then you can still buy a Pass and pre-book everything before you arrive in Fiji to ensure you get to stay at the resorts you prefer!

About Fiji & Planning your trip:

Fiji has beautiful weather all year round, with a very warm, tropical climate. The rainy season is from November to the end of March, but don’t let this ‘dampen’ your spirits as the wet season is usually made up of plenty of sunshine, with only one or two sudden downpours a day. This means you can still enjoy your beach holiday!

Some countries require a visa to visit Fiji. Please visit the Fiji Travel website for more information.

Yes. It is an essential condition of travelling with Awesome Adventures Fiji that you have valid travel insurance.

There are no medical facilities in the Yasawa Islands so if any medical problem arises you will need to return to Nadi. Sea and weather conditions can sometimes prevent travel on your booked dates as well.

The currency is the Fijian dollar.

There are no banks in the Yasawa Islands so you’ll need to plan ahead! The bank at Nadi International Airport is open 24 hours and cash machines are available at Nadi Airport, in Nadi town, Wailoaloa Beach and at Port Denarau.

A number of resorts in the Yasawa Islands do no accept cash so a credit/debit card is a must but it is still advisable to have some cash with you.

The electric current is 240 volts. Fiji has three-pin power outlets, which are identical to Australia and New Zealand.

Resorts in the islands have generators, so you’ll have electricity from sunset to midnight and generally for the first part of the morning, however operating times can vary so please check with your resorts.

Throughout the majority of the Mamanuca Islands and much of the Yasawa Islands there is 3G coverage so yes, most of the time your mobile phone will work but it is sometimes intermittant.

Yes – culture is very important in the islands, so we ask you to respect a few practices upon entering any village.

  1. No hats or sunglasses are to be worn (please do take these with you as it can get hot, but please take care to remove them from your head when in the village).
  2. Ladies are required to have shoulders and knees covered, a sulu (sarong) is a great option to wear when visiting the village.

Please note that the above requests apply to villages, not resorts. Wearing swimwear, hats, sunglasses etc is completely acceptable at island resorts.

Yes, mosquitos are buzzing around, but that’s what you get in a tropical place! Most resorts have mosquito nets over the beds or the windows have screens, but we always recommend you cover up and bring along some insect repellent containing DEET and apply it regularly, especially in the evenings.

The majority of the islands we take you to are owned by local Fijian villagers. The villagers benefit from your visits and if you’re interested in volunteering in Fiji or donating towards the Yasawa Island villages, please visit our Vinaka Fiji section.

You’ll see for yourself that Fiji’s natural environment is something special and we need to ensure that it is looked after for future generations. Below the sea lives delicate eco-systems of corals and reef fish and above the sea are pristine beaches and forests. Let’s keep it that way!

Here are some tips to help you travel responsibly:

  • Take only photos, leave only footprints. Yes, the shells are lovely, but they could also be a future home for little sea creatures. Some flowers and plants are protected and everything should stay in its natural environment. The only thing you should take away with you is your rubbish. Never leave it on the beach!
  • Don’t rush to flush and take short showers – freshwater is precious everywhere, especially on the islands.
  • Never touch coral and when snorkelling or diving please take all precautions to NEVER STAND ON THE CORAL, regardless of whether you are wearing flippers or not. Doing this will break, damage, and even kill the coral.
  • Try not to disturb marine life and never touch it – it has never been exposed to human bacteria and touching them could make them sick.
  • With many of our packages, we offer swimming with reef sharks and manta rays. Don’t be tempted to touch them. While the manta rays are gentle giants and the reef sharks seem friendly, you can damage their delicate mucus membrane by touching them, which can lead to them getting infections.
  • Try not to buy single-use plastic drink bottles. All Awesome Adventures Inclsuive and Dive Packages include a re-usable drink bottle with resorts providing complimentary filtered drinking water (often available at the bar).
  • We recommend using a sunscreen brand that is ‘reef-safe’. Ingredients in some sunscreens can damage the delicate marine ecosystem.

No way! We don’t do escorted tours – all our packages and passes are based on individual self guided travel – we have put together suggested itineraries (packages) to save you time working out all the logistics. You may of course meet up with other travellers doing the same package so are likely to see people at the various resorts you will be staying at. Of course, if you need to get ahold of us, we have a customer services team waiting for your call in Port Denarau or on the Yasawa Flyer.

Yes, all our experiences INCLUDE Yasawa Flyer transfers to your island resort/s.

However, please note that you must reconfirm your booking 24 hours prior to departure.

Check in, departure times and transfers:

If not booked locally, all bookings should be reconfirmed with our reservations team the day before departure.

If you have booked a Welcome Pack, you’ll be met with a warm ‘bula’ by our friendly transfer representative at Nadi International Airport.

Our main check-in counter is situated at the passenger terminal at Port Denarau, a large building on the waterfront, which leads out to the marina. Taxi and coach services can take you directly to the terminal. Upon entry to the terminal, you’ll see the South Sea Cruises & Awesome Adventures Fiji check-in desk and be greeted by our friendly staff who will direct you to board your vessel and will arrange the transportation of your luggage.

Yes, you can speed things up and avoid the queues at the morning departure by checking in at Port Denarau the day prior to your departure, any time after 10:30am. Your booking will be re-confirmed and you can be checked in so you can board your vessel the next day.

For the Resort Transfers timetable for both the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands, please click here. The Yasawa Flyer which visits the Yasawa Islands, departs daily at 8.45am and returns at 6.00pm.

If you are staying overnight on the mainland before you travel to the Yasawa Islands, we offer complimentary coach transfer from select Nadi, Wailoaloa, and Denarau hotels/resorts to Port Denarau.

We are very happy to collect you from your accommodation on the first day of your Awesome Adventure Fiji package for the transfer to Port Denarau. If you don’t book your accommodation through us, you will need to advise us of where you are staying. If you don’t advise us, getting to Port Denarau on time is your responsibility and at your own cost. We also provide a courtesy coach drop-off back to most resorts in the Nadi, Wailoaloa, and Denarau areas: just let us know where you are staying.

At the end of an Awesome Adventures Fiji package, upon return to Port Denarau we’re still there to help out! We have a coach departing at 6.15pm to drop guests off at Nadi International Airport and select hotels and resorts. This service is complimentary to Awesome Adventures Fiji passengers.

Click the relevant link below for the current coach transfer timetable:

Coach Transfer Timetable

Nadi International Airport is located 20 minutes from Nadi town or 30 minutes from Port Denarau, where our check-in counter and departure point is located.

We offer a complimentary scheduled coach transfer to Port Denarau leaving the airport at 7:15am in time to check in for the Yasawa Flyer departure – this must be prebooked.  There is a coach returning to the airport from Port Denarau departing at 6:15pm.

We also offer complimentary airport pick-up as part of our Arrival Pack.  For the Departure Pack at the end of your island trip we include a transfer to the airport.

We offer transfers to the majority of the Yasawa Island resorts as well as South Sea Island in the Mamanuca Islands. A full list of resorts we transfer to can be found on our Resort Transfer Timetable.

Our sister company, South Sea Cruises offers an extensive transfer service to island resorts in the Mamanuca Islands.

Transfer times can be found on our Resort Transfer Timetable.

Sea and weather conditions can – very rarely – prevent travel to and from the islands. It is therefore an essential condition of travelling with Awesome Adventures Fiji that you have a valid travel insurance policy in case of cancellations or delays. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for information on refunds.

Yes, we sell a range of food and drink (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic) onboard the Yasawa Flyer. Personal alcohol cannot be consumed on the vessel. You can also choose to upgrade to the Captain’s Lounge (on the Yasawa Flyer only) and get a selection of complimentary snacks and drinks as well as a seat in an air-conditioned private lounge on the upper deck.

Drinking your own alcohol on board our vessels is strictly prohibited. Our vessels are fully licensed for alcoholic purchases after 11am daily.

All resorts are licensed. You can however take your own alcohol to some resorts. It is best to check with your resort to find out their policy for supplying your own alcohol.

The Captain’s Lounge is an air-conditioned upper deck on the Yasawa Flyer. The lounge has large wrap-around windows, comfortable couches, and complimentary drinks and snacks (including house wine and local beer).

Access to the Captain’s Lounge is included as an optional upgrade with some packages where specified. Alternatively, it can be purchased as an upgrade when booking standalone transfers.

If your last day of your Awesome Adventure is spent in the Yasawa Islands, then you will not arrive back at Port Denarau until 6.00pm. We recommend you stay the night in Nadi or Denarau using our Departure Pack. If your last day is spent in the closer Mamanuca Islands, then you can choose to return to Port Denarau midday or mid-afternoon.

The majority of our experiences depart on the Yasawa Flyer at 8:45am. For these departures, you are required to be at Port Denarau for check-in by 8:15 am. So unless you have a very early flight, we recommend you arrive the day prior and stay the night in Nadi or Denarau using our Arrival Pack.

A few of our packages travel to the closer Mamanuca Islands first so if you are booking one of these packages, you can depart Port Denarau early morning, midday or mid-afternoon.

Fiji Island Accommodation:

Most of the resorts in the Yasawa Islands source the majority of their staff from the surrounding local villages and islands. Just about every resort is beachfront, with coral lagoons on the doorstep. The resorts range in style from mid-level resorts to modern properties with a higher standard of accommodation and amenities. This accommodates for travellers with different tastes and budgets. One thing all these resorts have in common is they are all set in stunning locations.

The resorts we offer have a range of room types from simple dorms through to beachfront luxury bures which means they cater for a very wide range of budgets.

Note: The resorts are not owned by Awesome Adventures Fiji and standards vary from property to property. We do monitor the resorts and have our staff visiting regularly to ensure everything is as it should be. Some of the properties run on power generators therefore, the voltage supplied might not be as strong and some devices may not operate effectively.

The following applies for all the resorts:

  • Resort-style properties
  • Modern with a high standard of accommodation and amenities
  • Meals are not included in the nightly rate; instead, you buy a daily meal plan either when booking or at check-in
  • Meals can include multiple courses with a varied selection of local and international dishes
  • All include free drinking water

Mealtime is generally very social and a fantastic way to experience the Fijian culture. The menus at each resort differ, with some à la carte and some buffet style. Fijian food is generally very tasty and includes delicious fresh fruit, fish, barbecue meat, and traditional fare, such as the melt-in-your-mouth marinated fish dish, kokoda.

Eating at the resort where you’re staying is generally the only choice – there are no restaurants around the corner. The style of meals varies, but the general rule of thumb is the more upmarket the property, the better the dining experience you can expect. Having said that even the more basic resorts offer hearty, wholesome, tasty meals.

All resorts seek to offer a mix of Fijian and European styles using fresh local produce.

We recommend vegetarians inform the resort on arrival.

All of our resorts have compulsory meal plans, some can be prepaid at the time of booking but most need to be paid at the resorts upon check-in in Fijian dollars.

Dorm’s (or Dormitories) are great for social travellers on a budget – these range from Dorm rooms with just 4 beds through to 32 beds and are a mixture of unisex or single-sex.  You will, of course, be sharing your sleeping space and bathrooms with other travellers but it’s a great way to keep the cost down and meet new people.

Bures (Fijian word for Bungalow) are your own private Room or Bure, most of which include a private en suite – these do cost a bit more but this gives you your own private space.

General Questions:

Most of the resorts in the Yasawa and Mamanuca Islands are quite small and capacity is limited. Where we specify particular resorts, chances are, you will stay at that resort. BUT … on occasion, they may be full for the dates that you want to stay there.

The replacement resort that we offer you, will be of a similar standard to the original and you’ll have just as good a time. Occasionally we may even have to swap the order of the nights around or put you on a different island but in all cases we’ll provide you with a similar experience.

We’re confident that we’ve chosen a great selection of resorts for each package. But if you really want to create your own path and design your own itinerary, feel free to build your own by purchasing an Awesome Pass.

Our packages offer the option of dorm or private bure that cater for most travellers. Please speak to our customer services team who will endeavor to provide you with this option if possible.

Sunday is a day of rest and church-going in the Yasawa Islands. This means that the usual activities are not on offer on Sundays. In most villages you will be welcome to join the church service – an amazing experience.

Eating at the resort you’re staying at is your only choice – there are no restaurants around the corner.

Yes, many of the resorts we take you to are suited to families and children. Child rates are available upon request. To book children with Awesome Adventures Fiji please contact us.

We know sometimes you are leaving home a long way ahead of getting to paradise and plans can change, so all packages can be booked on an open-dated basis.  Open-dated bookings are available for travel until 31 March 2025 only for all Packages & Passes.

All you need to do is confirm your dates with Awesome Adventures Fiji at least 14 days prior to your arrival in Fiji, of course, confirmation will be subject to availability at all of the resorts in your itinerary so the sooner you confirm, the more likely you are to get everything you ask for. Please contact us to find out more.

Our baggage allowance is the same as most airlines. We carry the baggage at the rear of the vessel. There’s limited space, so to be fair to everyone there’s a limit to how much you can bring on board

– One carry-on bag which can weigh up to 7kg (15lbs)

– A standard item – usually a bag – weighs up to 25kg (50lb)

Island Stay Packages:

The reason we recommend you travel in one direction (south to north or reverse) is so you maximise your time on each island. The Yasawa Flyer vessel travels north up the chain of islands in the morning, stopping off at each resort and back south, down the chain of resorts – again stopping off at each of them – in the afternoon. If you were to jump from south to north, back south, and then north again, you’d find you’re spending more time on the Yasawa Flyer than at the beach!

For all our Packages and Awesome Pass, you need to pick your room type at the outset for the duration of your trip.

If you want to do your research first, visit the individual Island Stays or the Individual resorts listed above to see prices. Look at the EXTRA NIGHT rates to work out how much your resort will cost each night as the first night cost includes the transfer as well as the accommodation.

No, you don’t have to worry about that. You just choose where you want to stay and we’ll automatically work out a transfer pass for you. Nice and easy!

Your transfer pass allows you to hop on and hop off the Yasawa Flyer according to where you are staying.

The pass includes coach transfers from select Nadi and Denarau accommodation to Port Denarau, where you’ll board the Yasawa Flyer for the islands. It also includes your ferry transfers between all your island resorts and back to Port Denarau on the last day of your adventure. Coach transfers back to most Nadi, Wailoaloa, and Denarau accommodation is also included (you must let us know where you are staying so that we can arrange your coach transfer). If you haven’t booked your mainland accommodation yet, take a look at our Arrival Pack and Departure Packs

Our Resorts have compulsory meal plans. For some resorts, this can be prepaid at the time of booking, or for most, it needs to be paid directly to the resort in Fijian dollars at check-in. Ask our reservations team for more info.

There are a huge range of activities around the islands that you can book while you’re at the resorts. Check them out, as they’re a good guide in helping you choose where to stay.

Bookings, amendment & cancellation:

Easy! All your experiences can be booked online via our booking system and secure payment gateway.

Remember: All experiences include your island vessel transfers.

If you want to make your arrival and departure travel as easy as possible, we recommend you also book an Arrival Pack and/or Departure Pack. These can be added to your experience when you book online.

If you’re not confident using our online booking system, give our friendly reservations staff a call or email. Alternatively, book through your travel agent.

Yes, some resorts do offer these options. For single, double or triple bookings, just go through our online system, if 4 of you want to share a bure, contact us so we can arrange your accommodation and booking. Alternatively, dorms are a great option and can be booked online.

Many of the resorts we take you to are suited to families and children. Child rates are available upon request. To book children with Awesome Adventures Fiji please contact us.

Please advise any dietary requirements at the time of booking. Please also reiterate these directly to each resort on arrival/check-in. Please remember that these island resorts are remote and their access to a wide range of foods is somewhat limited by deliveries and availability, but the resorts will accommodate the best they can.
